Requests outside our standard specifications require custom frame stock made for your order. We still work hard to keep every quote competitive, and generally our frames are priced below most custom made solid wood frame options.
At every scale, our panel and frame support systems work together to provide a surface that stays flat. The frame is a structural support as much as it is an aesthetic. This is especially true at sizes beyond 12x16. Although we sell our rigid open air panels individually it is ideal for them to ultimately land in our frames or to be affixed architecturally or otherwise.
Our frames also are rigid enough to correct warping traditional canvas strainers that may have veered out of flatness.
Frames
We currently offer frames in European white oak only, approximately 0.18" thick at the front-facing edge. Frame size, float gap, substrate depth, and face depth can all be made to your specifications (see drawings below).
Please include desired:
- Size: current standard sizes are 8×10, 9×12, 11×14, 12×12, and 12×16
- Substrate depth: the thickness of your artwork or surface. Standard is 1/2".
- Float gap: the space between the inner wall of the frame and the edge of the surface, on all sides. Standard is approximately 1/8 per side". Larger gaps require more frame stock and a larger overall frame at its exterior.
- Face depth: the offset between the top of the frame and the top of the substrate. our standard is approximately 1/16" above the substrate. It can be set 1/4" or so above or below, or flush to substrate.
- Finish: stain, paint, etc. Standard is raw, unfinished white oak.
- Joinery: corner splines, etc. Standard is glued mitered corners joined with framing staples in the back for strength.
